The end of the 2010 Little League Season is fast approaching which means we are gearing up for All-Stars and Post-Season Tournaments.  Being selected for one of these teams is an honor and agreeing to participate requires an all out commitment from the parents and players.  PALL strives for a fair and equitable process to select the participants.  All players (who have participated in at least half of their team's games) are eligible to be selected for All Star play.  However, as detailed below, All Star play may not be for everyone.

All Star Manager Selection Process

All Star Managers were selected in early May.  To be eligible as an All Star manager, individuals must have been a manager or coach during the regular season in a division that includes the age group they wish to manage during post-season play.  Applications for post-season all star managers were submitted and reviewed by the PALL Board.  Selected managers were chosen by a vote of the PALL Board.

All Star Player Selection Process

PALL uses a process that incorporates voting by managers, coaches and the players themselves to select the players that will represent the PALL for post season play.  Players are asked to vote for players of the same age from the other teams in their division (players are not allowed to vote for players from their own team).  Managers and coaches will be asked to vote for players from any of the teams in their division (managers and coaches may vote for players from their own team).  Manager, coach and player votes will be used to determine 10 of the players that will comprise each all star team.  The All Star Manager will determine the number of players on the team (usually 12 or 13) and is allowed to select the additional players needed to complete the team.

When players from more than one division are needed to complete an all star team, a greater weighting will be given to the players who played in the higher division during regular season play. However, playing in a higher division would not guarantee a player an all star spot over a more deserving player from a lower division.

All star teams (10, 11 and 12 year olds) will be announced on June 15th in accordance with Little League rules.  Players selected to participate on the 9 year old post season tournament teams may be announced earlier.

All Star Participation Fee

In order to offset the costs associated with participation in post-season play, PALL will collect $50 from each player selected to an all star team.  These fees will be applied to tournament entry fees which include all Little League International Tournaments and two additional invitational tournaments.  Fees are due upon selection to an all star team and must be received prior to participation in any post-season tournament game.

Expectations

·         Selection to a post season team is a tremendous honor and with it comes a tremendous time commitment.  It is expected that selected players will participate in all tournament games and attend all practices.  All Star Managers will determine the practice schedule, but it is not uncommon for an all star team to practice on all non-game days (i.e., up to 7 days a week).  All players should be committed to participation from June 15th through the end of All Star play.  For 9, 10 and 11 year olds this is usually mid to late July.  For 12 year olds, continued success in all star play could take the players to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA in late August.  Families are expected to alter vacation plans accordingly to allow players to honor this commitment.

·         Post season minimum play time is different than during the regular season.  Local rules are used during the regular season to promote development and ensure a more equitable distribution of play time.  Post season teams are only required to follow Little League Tournament Rules which require only that all players receive one at bat and play defensively for 3 consecutive outs (1 inning) per game.
